WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Most of us (at least here in the U.S) probably remember the TV show “What Would You Do?” It was often interesting to watch. Like most good decent shows on TV it came to an end probably replaced by something disgusting and immoral. Anyway, what if we apply that in our own lives? We continually find ourselves facing various situations where we need to respond to that situation. Somethings are good to get involved in while there are other things we should not. There are things we should say as well as things we should not. How do we decide? First of all when Jesus created us He gave us a conscience to help us in our choices … our decision making. We know right from wrong. Our conscience can be of great help.

There is also wisdom. Some people seem to have much more than other people do. Wisdom can be of great help in decision making.

There is also experience … ours and others. We can seek out consoling to gain the benefit of others’ experience.

There are also laws, rules and regulations to help guide us thru life … to help us make the right decisions. And, depending on what we are talking about it is best we know what those laws and rules are or we will get into big trouble. Ignorance of the law in no excuse!

I have no doubt left something out. As I sit here typing this I remember WWJD? In my opinion there is no better or greater question we can ask. What would Jesus do? If He wouldn’t do it then we probably shouldn’t either. That is a pretty good guide to use as well as a safe guide. But do we know what Jesus would do … or not do? We can simply by reading (knowing) the Holy Scriptures. There is no more important book we can read. After all we will judged by it so I would say it is very important that we know what it says. Like our human laws, ignorance of God’s Word is no excuse.

Lots of people have tried to justify themselves when they have done something in violation of God’s Word. They try to say that God told them it was okay to do it even though His Word says it is not. The thing that comes to mind is when a child of God marries someone who is not saved. That is being unequally yoked and is in direct violation of God’s Word. It is just asking for problems in the marriage. The believer thinks they can win their mate over to the Lord, but what usually happens is the believer is pulled away from God and it can destroy their relationship with God. It certainly can end a marriage and mess up the believers life. God will never tell anyone to do something contrary to what His Word says. Sadly prior to all of this most of these people were consoled by other Christians and a warning was sounded, but they chose not to listen … insisting that they had heard from God and had His approval. Some of them never got back in right relationship with God. Satan can use this to really mess people up.

It is important what we do or don’t do. And we are accountable to God. We have been given a set of rules. Those rules or LAWS were not given to us to obey although it would be great if we did. No, God’s laws were given to us to show us that we are indeed sinners and need help.

The ten commandments teach us what sin is by showing us that we can not obey them. If we could then Jesus would not have had to come to earth and die on a cross for us … to provide salvation we desperately need. God has done all He can do to keep you from going to hell when you die. But the choice of heaven or hell is yours to make. Your sin pays wages which you are earning each day. Payday comes upon death. The Word of God says that the wages of sin is eternal damnation of your soul. That is spending all eternity in the Lake of Fire. But you can turn to Jesus confessing and forsaking your sin, receiving His forgiveness, having His shed blood applied to you so that you will be passed over and not receive what you earned which is eternal death or damnation. Everybody has eternal life. It is just a matter of where you will spend it. It is your choice! It is not what would you do, but what will you do?
