We all know that the closer one gets to the equator the hotter it gets. If we live in the northern hemisphere that means that the further south we go toward the equator the hotter it gets. I have been privileged to see much of the world courtesy of the U.S. Navy. I have been at the equator more than once. Wow, it is hot there! We commonly refer to traveling south as “down” and traveling north as “up”.

However, down is actually below the surface of the earth. Scientists tell us that it is very hot inside the earth. What is the source of that heat? Again scientists tell us that the inside of the earth is molten liquid. Volcanos erupt spewing up molten liquid which come from down below inside of the earth. Sulfer is found coming out of volcanos.

God does not tell us specifically where hell is located, but it makes several references of it being down (inside of the earth) and most bible scholars believe this is the case. I wrote an article awhile back about what is causing the increase of earthquakes and volcanos. God’s Word tells us that hell is extremely hot and has sulfer. Do you know that God has written about hell more than any other subject in the bible? It is a place of eternal torment and unquenchable thirst. It is a place of fire but no one who goes there will ever burn up. It is totally dark and has smoke with sulfer. It is a horrible place for humans. And it is hot down there!

People joke about going to hell … partying with their buddies. First of all, there won’t be any partying going on. Secondly, no one will be able to interact with another person. They will hear their screams of anguish but that is all the awareness of others there will be. As the saying goes … it is not even a nice place to visit let alone live there. And we are talking about eternity … something we can’t even fathom.

This is truly very bad news, but wait there is good news. No one has to go to hell. God loves everyone of us and does not take pleasure in this fate. His true desire is for everyone to repent of their sin and turn to Him for forgiveness and cleansing. We need to realize that sin is a very serious matter. It is rebellion against God. God is holy and can not allow sin in His presence. It keeps us from God and spending eternity in heaven with Him. He tells us that the wages of sin is eternal death and damnation. God made a way for us to escape what we deserve (hell). God Himself came to earth in the form of a man (Jesus) to carry out God’s plan of redemption. Jesus died a horrific death shedding His innocent blood so that we can be forgiven if we only turn to Him. Salvation is free to us, but it cost God so very much. He was willing to pay the price while we were (are) still sinners. He proved His love for us on that wooden cross at Calvary’s hill. What more could He do? He did it all. He paid it all. Now it is up to us. We choose whether we go to heaven or hell. Which do you choose? It is hot down there! What will/have you done with Jesus?
