Those who are old enough probably remember the TV series “This is your life”. It was a very popular program and interesting to watch. It featured the life story of famous people. HERE is a sampling of it. I grew up watching this TV show and really enjoyed it. Even now at 79 years old I still enjoy watching it.
Years later I came across a tract entitled “This WAS Your Life” created by Jack Chick publishing company. I read it and was very impressed with it. It tells the story of each and everyone of us as far as our lives … according to what God’s Word tells us. We are all created in God’s image and are accountable to Him. No matter what our life consists of … no matter how successful, powerful, significant, etc. we all will find ourselves standing in single file as we stand in God’s judgement. And we are all guilty of sin in our lives. God tells us we earn a wage accordingly … that the wages of sin is death (eternal damnation apart from God). We have no defense … no excuse. We may not like it. We may not agree with it. But it is what it is and we can’t change it. Death cuts no deals with anyone.
Remember at George H. Bush’s funeral when it was said that he left a note telling his partners in crime that “they” know everything … that “they” had all the evidence against them? We are in the same boat except for one main difference … “they” could only kill the physical body. The One Who has the evidence against us is able not only to kill our physical body but He can also bring the second death upon us. And HERE. And He tells us that death is certain … that we all have an appointment with death and after that comes judgement. We all need to remember that He is God and we are not. We can’t argue with God.
Everything I have been talking about is bad news … unwelcome news, but there is good news to tell as well. The good news is that there is a way of escape. No one needs to experience this second death (eternal punishment). Jesus, God the Son, died on a wooden cross in our place taking out punishment in our place. He paid a debt He did not owe … a debt we could not pay as none of us qualify. It required Someone Who was perfect … without sin. Only Jesus was qualified. Only He could provide the salvation we so desperately needed.
Thankfully He loves us enough He was willing to pay the price. And what a price it was!
What an ordeal! This He subjected Himself to for you and for me. What a demonstration of His great love! Have you accepted it? Have you responded to it? Or was it all in vain in your life? If it was then you deserve His anger and wrath … and that is exactly what you will get it you reject Him. He has done all He can do to keep you out of hell. It is your choice. Call on Him while He may be found.
