Where in the whole wide world do you think has the most witchcraft? Africa? How about Haiti? Witchcraft comes in many different packaging and most of it isn’t recognized for what it is. The good ol’ USA leads all nations in witchcraft. We grew up watching Bewitched … an innocent white witch for the most part, right? There is no such thing as white witchcraft. Surely there was no harm in that TV entertainment program, right? Wrong! It did terrible harm in our lives and society. We accepted it and thought much less of it all. Even today … years later I can readily see the damage it has done. I can see it in my own life. I spent 30 years as an atheist and 49 years so far as a born again believer in Jesus since those first 30 years. Those first 30 years were my formative years, especially the first 15 or so.

It is so important that a child is reached for Jesus early as once beyond those formative years the odds of reaching that child with the Gospel is greatly reduced. Percentage wise very few people get saved after those formative years. I am thankful that I am not part of that statistic.

It is a very dangerous thing to pursue witchcraft. One is messing with the devil and he is not one to mess with. The devil has power … lots of power … and he loves to entice and trap people with it. It may seem harmless at first. You may think you can handle it and that you have everything under control. You may not see the connection between the devil and what you are involved with. That is exactly what the devil wants you to think. It may start out that way but he will slowly draw you in deeper and deeper until you are hooked and trapped.

Both are good illustrations. A fish sees an enticing worm dangling out there in front of him and strikes at it. The bobber goes down and the fisherman jerks on the line to set the hook. Once the hook is set it is nearly impossible to escape. The fisherman has you. An animal sees some food in the back of a cage. He may study the situation looking things over. It looks safe enough. He is hungry so he enters the cage and goes to the back where the food is. He gets the food, but a door slams shut capturing him inside of the cage … it worked just as it is designed to … it has it’s victim and it can’t get free.

God has power too … even more that Satan. God’s power is to be used only for good and never evil. Satan has come to kill, steal and destroy and his power is for these things only. He may convince you otherwise, but remember, he is a liar and master deceiver! It isn’t power we should be pursuing. Jesus should be our attraction and focus. God won’t let his power be misused.

It is a sad testimony that witchcraft reigns numero uno in the Land of the Free and the Brave. Sometimes I wonder if we don’t have too much freedom … more than what is good for us. Russia, China and India are all much larger that the U.S., yet they don’t hold that title. Hmmm, maybe their leadership is smarter than ours. They don’t let their people mess with witchcraft like we do here. Or maybe their people are just smarter than us. After all, it is pretty dumb to mess with the devil.
