RETRIBUTIVE JUSTICE … A BIBLICAL WARNING

Proverbs 26:27 states that “Whoever digs a pit will fall into it; if someone rolls a stone, it will roll back on them.” This verse illustrates the principle of retributive justice, suggesting that those who plan harm against others may ultimately face the consequences of their actions. It sounds a little bit like Murphy’s Law, doesn’t it?

It is not just Wiley Coyote that needs to take heed. We all do. I love it when I hear or read about the evil-hearted Muslim terrorists or military having their weaponry malfunction or them making stupid mistakes which result in blowing up in their faces or the wind they are depending upon shifting bringing their explosives back unto them. They deserve it!

We reap what we sow. If we plant corn we will grow corn, not some other crop. Of course, that ‘law’ works both ways … good or bad. So we need to be very careful what we sow or we may reap something we will regret.

Someone I know recently fell victim to an online get rich scam. I tried to warn them that it was likely a scam, but they would not listen. They told me that that is what will be found if they are researched and not to pay any attention to it. It is a multi-level marketing ponzi scheme. They invested $1000 and lost it, although the scammer says they will fully refund it. I hope so. That is a lot of money to lose. Originally the victim had planned on sending 4 or 5 times that much. It is good that they didn’t. I lost $40 in one of these once. That seemed like a lot to lose then. I can’t imagine losing $1000 even though the $40 then would be like $500 or more today. I have learned that it is wisest, especially nowadays to research most everything rather than jump in feet first. That is especially true of anything that is found on Facebook. It seems Facebook only deals with fake products and those up to no good.

God’s Word warns us about quick easy money and that we are to work for our money and not seek these get rich quick deals the devil offers. Again we reap what we sow.

Some people today refer to this retributive justice as instant karma. It is not always the same thing, but it can be. If we make a mistake that costs us, hopefully we will learn from it. Sometimes we can pay a high price for what we have done. It can even cost us our life. And, if we die unsaved it cost us our eternal soul as well. That can’t be translated into money.

We should always remember some of the sayings that have been around for some time … like … a fool and his money soon part … we usually get what we pay for … if it sounds too good to be true it probably is … a sucker is born every minute, etc.

Right from soon after the very beginning we have had shysters among us … dishonest people out to take advantage of innocent victims. And in these times we are living in they may be our own family members … at least in some families. Be alert … be watchful … be vigilant … be on your guard … be very careful and cautious … be wise and smart. Don’t become a statistic … another victim.

And watch out for others as well. Be their friend and protector. We are stronger bonded together than trying to stand alone. Remember a rope of three strands is not easily broken. This phrase comes from Ecclesiastes 4:12 in the Bible, which emphasizes the strength found in unity and collaboration. It suggests that when individuals work together, they are more resilient and can withstand challenges better than when they are alone. And hopefully there is collective wisdom and experience when people unite together. We truly need one another!
