Most all of us have insurance of one kind or another. Insurance isn’t normally free. In fact, it is usually rather costly. Unfortunately it is pretty much a necessary thing. So just what is insurance? The definition is: ” coverage by contract whereby one party undertakes to indemnify or guarantee another against loss by a specified contingency or peril.” Life is uncertain. That is why we need insurance. Things happen. Most of the time those “things” are unexpected. But what if it is expected? I mean there are things that we know will happen. Remember the ol saying about the 2 things we are assured of in life? Benjamin Franklin’s quote about death and taxes being a certainty still applies. Some have managed to avoid taxes, but no one has ever managed to escape death. It is still running 100 out of 100. Life and death is something we can get insurance for. In fact, it is a big business.

Yes, insurance is available for life and death. It is called life insurance, but maybe it ought to be called death insurance. Speaking of death as I already mentioned it is a sure thing. Sooner of later it will happen to all of us. And when it does all the money in the world won’t help us. God has told us “that it is appointed unto man once to die and after that comes judgement”. He further tells us that we all have eternal life and that everyone of us will spend eternity in one of two places … heaven with God or hell without God. He offers us a choice between those two options. We can be saved or we can go to hell. We are assured of one or the other.

Speaking of assured brings up another word … assurance. Yes we have the assurance of our eternal home … or destination. A popular and well known song … Blessed Assurance has been sung for decades. Here are the lyrics:

If we read the words of this song we can readily see that they are very powerful with deep meaning. But, of course, only to someone who is saved … who knows the goodness of God and His faithfulness … someone understands His great love for mankind Who He created … someone who has experienced His mercy and grace … someone whose sins are forgiven and they are right with God and acceptable to Him.

For those who remain lost in their sin the words to this song mean nothing. They don’t have a clue what I am talking about. God’s heart is broken over those who reject Him and continue on in rebellion. It does not give Him any pleasure to send anyone to hell other the devil and his demons.

Many millions (no doubt billions) have sung this song over the years and the invitation is open to join in. God gives us the assurance of salvation when we call upon Him to get saved. It doesn’t matter what our past is. God readily forgives all sin … except for the one unforgivable sin which is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit … attributing that which is of God (the Holy Spirit) to the devil. Very few people are guilty of this sin so there is hope for nearly everybody. Yes, there is room at the cross for you. He is waiting upon you with arms wide open ready to forgive you … that you can be right with God. Call upon the Name of Jesus now. Tomorrow may be too late.

Insurance is a good thing and nice to have, but assurance is even better and more important.
