Of course, none of us were there. It happened nearly 2000 years ago. Never the less, it was and is the most important thing that has ever happened. I am talking about when God came down to earth to be born as a man and live among us. That was indeed a very special happening.
Have you ever stopped to think about it? Can you imagine God loving us enough to motivate Him to leave His splendor in Heaven to come to earth and dwell among us knowing that all too soon He would lose His very life in an unimaginable horrific way? The thing we need to keep in mind is that He laid down His life voluntarily. It was taken from Him as many believe. He was God. He could have ended it anytime He wanted to. He could have called all the angels of heaven to set Him free … to remove Him from that cross … and to comfort Him. But He did not make that choice. He chose to carry out His plan … to be obedient unto death so that we might be forgiven of our sin and be saved.
Of course, I have to include the late great Mahalia …
How about a full orchestra and choir?
Here is a much newer rendering by a popular singer …
No, none of us were there, but if we close our eyes and think about it … well, it can become very real. It works for me, anyway. I am sure I have God’s help as I don’t think it would be possible otherwise.
One thing I learned long ago is God’s anointment makes all the difference. I just listened to a very well known secular singer sing this song and it sounded horrible to me. There was no anointing upon him.
That cross that I write about was special. There has never been another one like it nor never will be. There is no need of another one. What took place on that cross was sufficient. God doesn’t do anything half way. He paid for our sin. He paid our debt. He paid a debt He did not owe. He did it for us as we could not and can not save ourselves. It was a debt we could not pay. But we surely owe it. If you have come to realize it I am here to tell you although millions have come there is still room for one … there is room at the cross for you. Here is Larry Ford to sing another great song …
Just call on His Name and He will hear you. If you are serious and sincere He will respond to you. Just acknowledge the sin in your life and be willing to turn from it. Submit your entire being to Him asking Him to forgive you and come into your heart and life and take control. It is a simple thing to do yet probably the hardest thing you will ever do as it involves dealing with stubborn pride in our lives. BTW, God hates pride. It is sin. You weren’t there when Jesus was nailed to the cross and crucified. However, you can still call on Jesus as He is no longer the One who died on a cross. He is risen and alive forever more. Now is the time to meet Him, not later … when He returns to pour out His wrath and anger upon sinful man who refused, ignored and rejected the salvation He alone offers now … or when you die without Him and face Him in your sin. What will you do with Jesus? Someday your heart will be asking … What will He do with me?
So the real question is not were you there, but have you been there?
