GOING HOME
There is nothing like going home. I remember when I was in the Navy and far away from family and home. Sometimes I was on the other side of the world. I wasn’t able to go home very often, but when I did get to go home what a wonderful thing it was. It was great to be back with family and friends, even though most of my friends were also serving in the military. Anyway I haven’t forgotten any of it. I remember being aboard the ship standing duty during holidays … holidays when families are usually gathered together at home.
Yes, going home was always such a wonderful thing. And that doesn’t change no matter what stage of life we are in. Of course, as life goes, the home we knew as children eventually ends as our parents die. Hopefully by then we have our own home and so it continues on.
But did you know that there is another home we can go to? None of us have ever been there before so when we say going home it is not a matter of returning home. It is a heavenly home. Here is the Martins sing about it.
Another song comes to mind where the words are: “This world is not my home. I am just passing thru. If heaven is not my home, than Lord what shall I do?”
God has made it possible and He tells us that we can’t begin to fathom how beautiful heaven must be.
But most will never see heaven. They are not going home upon their death. It doesn’t have to be this way, but it is what they choose. Their new home isn’t at all appealing. No one is their right mind would choose to go there, but that is exactly what most people are doing. We live in a day and age where we have lots of “default settings”. You might say there is a default setting concerning heaven or hell. Every one of us have a default setting and it is “hell bound”. We will automatically go to hell unless we choose heaven while we have the opportunity. Hell bound is the default setting because of sin. We are all sinners. Sin is simply “rebellion against God”.
Sin separates us from God and keeps us from going to heaven. Sin is not allowed in heaven. Sin in our lives has to be dealt with. Only Jesus can help us with this. Won’t you let Him? Only He can forgive you of your sin and take it away. Only He can cleanse you and make you pure and acceptable to God. Only He can write your name in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Upon joining the family of God you also can sing “Going Home”. Jesus will give you plenty to sing about. He will put a new song in your heart. Here is just a small listing:
