In the Old City of Jerusalem, Israel is a small narrow street known as Via Dolorosa otherwise known as the way of suffering. It is well known because it is part of the route Jesus walked carrying the horizontal member of the cross He was crucified on. The street is only about 6 foot wide so you can understand why there was a crowd control problem along the route. There just wasn’t much room for the procession much less people trying to view it. I was there several years ago on my tadpole trike riding down the narrow street. Now if you believe that I would like to talk to you about buying some prime real estate down in southern Florida. That’s me on my trike and that is the Via Dolorosa, but I am there thanks to some photo editing.

Yes, Jesus walked that path even though they call it a street. As he walked along that path and later hung on that wooden cross we were on His mind. He did it all for us. The beating and other mistreatment He endured was for us. Scripture says that “by the stripes He took upon His body we are healed”.

Here is a rather interesting video of a Jewish man walking along the Via Dolorosa by himself when it is not crowded or busy. It is raining as he walks and nearly everything is closed. Every year they have another procession along that route. It happens at this time of year except they skipped it this year because of the warfare going on. This next video is rather long so you may want to skip it and just look at the captured image from the video showing how crowded the street is on Good Friday’s procession.

How would you like to be in that crowd? Not me, I would rather sit here in comfort and see it on YouTube. I don’t think it was nearly that busy when Jesus walked it. Anyway, I am sure glad He chose to walk it … to carry out the mission He was on. Otherwise we would be without hope … lost in our sin … still hell bound. Thank you Jesus … for dying for me. I am not ashamed of the gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ … for it is the power of God to set men free. Have you been to Calvary?
