DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HEAR?

Yes, those are words to a popular Christmas song, but they are also words making up an all important question. And they also remind me of a joke. Some well meaning folks decided for the upcoming Christmas season to go carolling. It was new to them so they decided and chose to go to a hospital thinking that would be a good place and they would be greatly welcomed and appreciated. So they selected a hospital by simply placing a finger on a random listing in the phone book. They went there and asked if they could sing Christmas carols. They were welcomed in. However they got quite a surprise when they were asked to leave and not come back after only singing a few words of their first song. It turned out to be a mental hospital and their song Do you hear what I hear caused an uproar.

But seriously I am asking … do your hear what I hear? I am not necessarily talking about audible voices or sounds although that is certainly possible but rare. In April 1977 I heard my name being called. It was not an audible voice, but never the less I heard it. It got my attention and it wasn’t long before I responded to that voice. That is when I started on a incredible journey. That is when my life turned completely around. That is when I met the Savior. That is when I found out that He is real … that He is a Person … a Person who is alive and wants to be my friend. But more important than that, He wants to be my King and Lord … which deserves and I need. I have been listening to Him and following Him ever since. In following Him He has taken me down some neat roads and introduced me to things I would have never known if I had never heard and responded to His voice.

He doesn’t talk loud. He has a still small voice in the midst of many voices that are shouting. Thankfully I was able to hear Him over all the distractions out there. Now I know the source of all of those distractions. And I know and understand the danger in listening to and giving heed to those distractions.

Do you hear what I hear? You can. All it takes is an openness and desire to know the truth. The Truth will not withhold Himself from anyone who is seeking to know the truth. As an atheist for the first 30 years of my life I simply asked a question of a God I did not believe it. I said a simple prayer … “God, if You are real, prove Yourself to me.” I wrote about it. You can read it HERE. In short, He answered that prayer. Yes, that is why God tells us that if we know the truth it will set us free! Do you hear what I hear? Just listen to what I say. It will bring you goodness, joy and inner peace!
