LAST CHANCE

Have you driven in desolated areas where gas stations, restaurants, auto repair, etc. are far apart … farther apart then some motorists may be able to go without making a stop at what is advertised as the last chance for 50 … 100 miles or more?

It would be a horrible thing to run out of gas or have mechanical failure out in the middle of nowhere. Of course, chances are pretty good that the prices at these last chance places are pretty high … taking advantage of the situation. Just getting fuel and/or food delivered out there in the boon docks is probably costly.

But what choice do we have? It is, afterall, the last chance we have. If we are wise, we will try to keep our gas tank topped off as much as possible as we travel along toward such desolated areas. It might also be wise to carry some extra gas in a gas can along with us. I would say that the important thing is not to let ourselves get into a desperate situation if we can avoid it. We would be gambling and the odds are against us.

Nearly everybody gambles every day. We gamble with out eternal soul and there are no odds on our side. Sooner or later we will find our self not out of gas, but out of time. There will be no opportunities available to get right with God. If we die in our sin our fate is settled. We will end up in eternal damnation in hellfire. Each moment of each day is like that last chance gas station. If we try to continue on down the road of life we may never arrive at our destination.

You may say that you are not concerned about going to hell … that that is where most of your friends will be and you will all have a good time … a big party. Your friends might be there, but you won’t be aware of them. Oh, you might hear their screams, but your own screams will probably drown them out. No, there won’t be any partying going on. It is likely partying helped get you there.

You may not like the rules, but they are what they are and there is nothing you can do to change them. We are all subject to them. God created us and He made the rules. We are accountable to Him. He has done all He can to keep you out of hell, but the choice is yours. He provided salvation and the forgiveness of sin. It is a free gift to us but if we ignore Jesus’s offer of salvation and reject it we choose hell over heaven.

None of us know if we will draw another breath. Today … right now … might be our last chance . Don’t gamble with your eternal soul. The odds are not in your favor. You would do good to exit the highway you are traveling on get right with God.
