CONCERNING BEING LOST

Have you ever been lost? I mean … really lost … where you didn’t have a clue where you were at or which way to go to get unlost. I have more than once in my life. Just in recent years while riding my tadpole trike I have ridden into areas and got lost. I just rode around until I finally found myself somewhere that I was familiar with. It can be a rather uncomfortable feeling being lost and not knowing how to get unlost. I think once I used Google Maps and GPS on my smartphone to find my way. Usually though I just work it out on my own without such help. Sometimes I have come out to someplace I am familiar with but far from where I want to be.

And then there are subdivisions which are laid out in such a way as to totally confuse any invading enemy. You could not pay me to live in a subdivision like that. I like simplicity … everything laid our with streets that run north and south and east and west … gridwork … not something like they used a night crawler dipped in ink to allow to move about laying out the streets. But, hey, that’s the world we live in. At least we have house numbers here in the U.S. I have been in countries that don’t use house numbers. It is a wonder anybody can be found. Seriously!

I am reminded of Chevy Chase in European Vacation where they are driving a rental car and mistakenly arrive at a house they think are relatives but are total strangers. They greet the residents and have a meal with them, sleep overnight in their home and when they depart the residents while waving goodbye are wondering who are these people? That was funny!

Yes, we can get lost and get really messed up, but thankfully we manage to find our way out of such messes. But there are other scenarios that can have far more serious consequences. If we find ourselves in the wrong place we can experience horrifying results … like bad dangerous neighborhoods or just coming across bad evil people. Everything I have been talking about concerns life on earth.

What about the afterlife? The bible tells us we are all lost in the life … like sheep that have strayed away. Actually we are all travelling on the main road … a very broad highway … just shuffling along totally abliss to the fact that we are lost. We are just travelling along with the masses thinking everything is okay. We don’t realize where that road we are on is leading. Oh, there have been times someone has tried to warn us, but we just shrugged it off as we didn’t believe them.

It happened it Noah’s time as well. He did his best to warn everyone that danger lies ahead … that they will surely perish if they don’t get off of that road they are travelling on. But they didn’t listen and they all perished just as Noah had warned them.

We need to leave that main road and take the side road which is offered. Travelling on it we won’t be lost. We will know where we are at and where we are going … where the side road leads us. But most people don’t listen. They are comfortable and content to remain on the main road. They find it more attractive. And all of their friends are travelling on that road. They all have a good time together. They don’t realize a sudden dropoff over a cliff lies ahead. Remaining on that main road leads to destruction for everyone who travels on it.
