Do you know that you don’t own your house or car? You might think you do. You might claim you do, but Psalm 24:1 declares “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” God owns everything. That may not set well with you. You might have a hard time dealing with it. You might have worked hard for many years to pay off your home’s mortgage and vehicles. I know my wife and I did.

The truth is we are just stewards … managers of all that we have. All that we have came from God. Even the health and ability to work and make money comes from God. The sooner we learn that and live our lives accordingly the more blessed our lives will be. Here is an article written by David J. Harris, Jr. about Hobby Lobby and its founder, David Green.

“Hobby Lobby founder and CEO David Green says he does not view himself as the true owner of the multibillion-dollar company he built. Instead, he believes God owns everything and that he has simply been entrusted to manage it faithfully.
“We’re stewards. We are not owners,” Green has explained, pointing to Psalm 24:1: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”
That conviction has shaped how the Green family uses the company’s success. Hobby Lobby gives more than 50% of its profits to Christian causes, including Bible translation, evangelism, church planting, and ministries sharing the Gospel around the world. Through its foundation and ministry partners, the family has invested more than $1 billion into Christian work.
Hobby Lobby started with a $600 loan and has grown into a company with more than 1,000 stores and annual sales exceeding $8 billion. Green says the purpose of continued growth is not simply accumulating more wealth—it is creating more opportunities to tell people about Jesus.
His testimony is a reminder that success is not measured only by what we gain, but by how faithfully we use what God places in our hands. Whether it is money, influence, talent, or time, everything can be used for His glory and the advancement of the Gospel.

How about that? That is an impressive testimony! God truly does bless obedience! I believe that is applicable in the lives of unbelievers as much as it is for believers. God is not a respecter of persons and He honors His Word … even above His very Name.

Tithing is an excellent example. Sadly many Christians (approximately 79%) have never obeyed God in giving back to God. He only asks for 10 %. All of the money we have belongs to God. He allows us to keep 90 %. But when we obey God everything changes. We go from being cursed to being blessed. It is said that God will get His tithe whether it is a matter of it being freely given or taken from them. Little things in life like the furnace going out, the car breaking down, the water heater needing replaced, the clothes washer or dryer breaking down, etc. happen to those who rob God of His tithe. When tithing these things are blessed of God and serve us faithfully. Oh yeah, something can fail and require repair or replacement, but God will supply the finances needed to cover it. My wife and I have experienced this for decades. God is faithful! The obedience of tithing is even something God has told us to test Him in … that He can prove His faithfulness to those who obey Him. It is so sad that only a small percentage of God’s people tithe. I would much rather have God’s blessings than His curse. God is a good God. He wants to bless us. It is our choice whether we are blessed of God or cursed by Him. His ultimate blessing comes when we receive Him as Savior and Lord.
