Lost in the wilderness. Let’s examine those words. I think we all know what lost is. It is not knowing where we are at or not knowing how to get somewhere from where we are at. Wilderness … is where things are wild, unsure, scary, vast, uncertain, confusing, difficult and challenging, etc. We may not be aware of it, but we are all in a wilderness. It is called life.
The problem is most of us don’t realize that we are lost. Mankind seems to think that everything is quite okay when it is not. We are deceived either by the devil or ourselves or a combination of both. We are convinced that everything is okay when it it not. Yes, most people go thru life like this. It is very dangerous to go thru life like this.
Oh, we have had plenty of warning, but most of us tend to totally ignore those warnings as well as the help which is offered. Instead we listen to voices that tell us that we are fine and not to listen to anyone trying to tell us different. They think anyone who tries to tell them otherwise is wack-o … downright crazy. They even hate such people.
Jesus told us that the world would hate those who represent Him. After all, the world hates Him. He came unto the world … unto the very people He created and was rejected by them. He represented God in every way showing God’s love. In return for that great love they murdered Him. He could have stopped them, but He willingly allowed them to take His life to further demonstrate God’s love. After all, He was the God-man. He was 100% God while being 100% man. That is hard for us to fathom, but it is true. If we read His Word, the bible, we can see that even though He was a human man He was fully God at the same time. He could have ended the world’s treatment of Himself at any time, but He was on a mission. He was carrying out God the Father’s Plan of Salvation.
Yes, He was on a mission. That is why He came to earth. God knew we were lost even if we didn’t/don’t. He knew we were in desperate need of help even if we don’t.
Jesus said of Himself that He is the Good Shepherd … the One Who leaves the flock and goes out looking for lost sheep. And when He finds a lost sheep He picks it up and carries it … carries it to where the flock is. Jesus has a large flock but there is always room for more.
Sadly, there are lost sheep who don’t want to be found. They don’t realize that if they go their own way the path they are on leads to destruction.
Sometimes I wish this self will God gave us could be turned off just long enough for everybody to get saved. I can’t force anyone to get saved and God won’t. It is our choice and our choice only. One thing we all need to understand is that by not making a choice we have already made a choice. There is no neutral ground when it comes to the Savior. We are either for and with Him or against Him. God has said in His Word that if we die in our sin we will surely perish.
Sheep are not known to be the most intelligent of critters. In fact, some say they might be among the dumbest. They are known to lay down and not be able to get themselves back up. They would just lay there and die if their shepherd did not come along and help them back up. Sheep really need a shepherd to watch over them and take care of them. God refers to us as sheep and Himself as the shepherd … the Good Shepherd. He is always looking for lost sheep. If you baaaaaa baaaaaa He will hear you and come looking for you and He will find you.
