YOU ALWAYS HURT THE ONE YOU LOVE

I was just out for a bike ride. While I was riding I was listening to some music. One of the songs was an oldie first sung by the Mills Brothers I think. (Am I dating myself?) At least they are the first artists I can remember singing it. Lots of various artists have recorded it over the years. I certainly did not listen to all of them but I listened to several before choosing this one by Eric Clapton.

Of course, it is a secular song. Never the less, it has a very important and true message … we always hurt the one we are supposed be in love with (our life mate). I certainly take issue with the last lyric … “because I love you most of all”. We don’t show our love by doing wrong and hurting them. That is simply trying to excuse our actions and words and justify them. God has called us to STOP SINNING.

Of course, we can and we should apologize if and when it happens. And the one who was offended and hurt needs to respond in grace. But it would have been so much better if the offense never happened. Sadly we can’t undo what we did. We can only try our sincerest best to make things right and go forward from there. This comes down to admitting wrong … having sinned against our mate and God. In short, we need to repent. Repenting means to stop doing that which is wrong … starting with a sincere desire to stop. If we can learn to do this with our mate it will help us to do it with God. But you know … God has us covered … at least those who have been saved. He tells us in His Word … “if and when we sin, God is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin and cleanse us of our unrighteousness if we simply confess it and seek His forgiveness.” (that is my paraphrase) Of course, we are not to take advantage of God’s grace and purposely sin.

This is a very serious matter and needs to be. However, I want to lighten things up a little. Spike Jones is good for that …
